Korean Cultural Event!

Last week, we had an amazing event!

Korean Cultural Night

The story started this summer in New York City, when a Korean pastor in Brooklyn spoke to our Shalom New York ministry team. One of our Israeli staff was there and after the meeting he spoke to the Pastor about his upcoming trip to Israel. During the conversation and afterwards they plans to hold a Korean Cultural event at the Greater Tel Aviv Messianic Center.

The event had authentic Korean food, singing and dancing in traditional Korean attire and even some history of Korea!  We were not sure how well attended this event would be. It turns out that there is a huge interest in Asian cultures! We had around 90 people come, including the ministry team of Korean Americans. We also had some amazing help from Koreans living in Israel! Together these team effort led to an amazing impact on those who came. We were surprised to see so many non-believers come to this event. Many were especially touched by the testimony that one of the Koreans shared.

Because the testimony was so impactful, I want to take a moment and share it with you too.

The Testimony

This young man in his mid-twenties shared. He fell into the deepest of worlds when he became a drug addict and a drug dealer. He had exposure to the Gospel and one of his friends in school was a believer. One day, he had a dream that shocked him. He didn't understand it at the time. In the dream his best friend kept moving away from him whenever he did bad things, things he liked doing. At some point the friend disappeared completely. He woke up and was trying to figure out the meaning of the dream, when the authorities burst into his fourth story apartment. In order to try and get away, he jumped out of the window. He explained that it was only as he was falling that he realized what he had down and someone, miraculously he turned around and grabbed the stair rail on the third floor. He survived but went to prison. One day his old friend who was a believer visited him in prison and shared with him about God. It was at this meeting that he finally understood his dream and he received the Lord.

The Impact

After the event people started to ask questions about who we are. Many people were moved by the testimony, the event and the love of the people inside of Center. Outside there were the usual protestors from the anti-missionary organization, Yad LeAchim. They tried to convince people not to enter. One woman was listening to them and she went to our volunteer, Yasmin*, who explained that we are Jewish people who believe that Jesus is the Messiah. The anti-missionaries don't really know who we are and they are against our presence. She went on to explain that inside are Korean Christians who want to share about their culture. The woman went in and had a great time. She said that if Yasmin had not been there, she would not have gone in. To be honest, the opposition standing outside our facility was stronger than usual and yet, we had a better event with more impact than nearly all of our previous events. This just proves again that God is with us!

Please pray with us that people's lives would be changed!
