A God Story - Honeymoon Money

When sharing the Gospel with people, I often like to share a story from my life in which we can clearly see the hand of God. I call these stories, God Stories, because they are all about the Lord and I feel like we were given these events for the purpose of sharing the Gospel and encouraging other believers.

My wife and I were discussing how many God Stories we have and how it might be nice to share them with you, to encourage you in your faith and also to encourage you to share your God Stories with others as well.

Honeymoon Money

Janice and I were engaged to be married and we had several meetings with our pastor to plan the wedding ceremony. At one of these meetings in his office in Tel Aviv (Israel), he handed Jason a thick envelope. Inside was a lot of money. He said, that he had been praying for us and felt led by the Lord to give us this money. He said, "I feel like you are going to need it on your honeymoon." We tried to tell him that we are fine financially. Janice had a substantial savings and the wedding was being covered by her parents. But our pastor insisted and we took the envelope with us on our honeymoon.

The first week or so, Jason used funds from his bank account, but since he was a college student, those funds didn't last long. Around the day five, we started using Janice's bank card. We were in the far east of Hungary, staying at a wonderful hotel. As we were getting ready to leave the area and head back west towards Budapest, we decided to pull out some money from the ATM machine in the hotel lobby. As we began the transaction, the machine shut down mid-transaction. When it restarted, it did not release Janice's bank card and it did not continue the transaction. It literally ate her card. After hours on the phone trying to find the owner of the ATM machine, it became apparent, that the card was lost forever! We had no access to Janice's bank account. Jason's account was empty. Then we remember the envelope!

Our honeymoon lasted another week in Hungary and then on to the USA. We had a wedding celebration in Minnesota and then went to Oregon for week, where Janice's bank is, visiting her sending church. While there we picked up her newly, reissued bank card, but it wasn't until we returned to Minnesota before heading back to Israel, that we needed to access her bank account again.

That single gift from the Lord, lasted almost our entire honeymoon! Isn't God amazing!
